Wow, month 1 of 2014 is over, before you know it, it will be Christmas again. So what was January like for me?

I Read
The River Knows by Amanda Quick. I got this from my mom, but I got into Amanda Quick from one of the books I won. This particular book had nice twists and turns, and I liked the characters although they were not deeply developed. It was set in the age of British Society and in the end I didn't hate it.

Rich Dad's Success Stories: Real Life Success Stories from Real Life People Who Followed the Rich Dad Lessons by Robert T. Kiyosaki. I actually re-read this book. I just needed some inspiration in believing I can generate and manage money. The only thing is it highlighted the economic bust for me as I could see many people applying the real estate philosophy at any cost. One thing that stood out is one person saying they had the interest rate type that got people into a lot of trouble. Still a book worth reading.

I Drank
Honeybadger Sweet Red  out of South Africa. I'm a sweet wine drinker, my sister is not, in fact she likes her wines red and dry. Unfortunately for her, and fortunately for me, she bought this wine and hated it. I got it and I must say a glass of wine at the end of the day helps to unwind and mellow out just in time for bed.

Celestial Seasonings Herbal Tea Sampler. It's been nippy and a hot cup of tea is so divine. I even treated myself to a big cup so I can sip and savour. Each flavour has its purpose for me, like Sleepytime and Honey Vanilla Chamomile are great to relax with Peppermint and Lemon Zinger gives me a little pick me up. Yum yum tea.

I Watched 
The Legend of Hercules I was going to swear off of 3D, but I went with some friends to see this movie and...... I loved it, correction I lurved it. Sure it didn't stick to the mythology but the action was on point, the 3D was done successfully. We left the theater on a high, it made up for 47 Ronin. Money well spent.

Bleach Yes, I'm an anime fan and I've gotten back into watching this show. I kinda lost interest when the main character was acting a bit like a wuss but I'm back into it and lurving it again. I like it because it has the right blend of kick-ass, humour and heart. I'm behind so I don't really have to wait to see the next episode. Damn, it's almost like a soap opera.

Close Friends Can we say drama? It's the sort of webseries that gets you hooked and I end up screaming/squeeling at my laptop. There is one character that makes me think he has no self control, he sleeps with everyone or everyone's girlfriend. If you are looking for a webseries with more than one season, check this one out.

I Loved 
Gia. Gia was a big puppy that adopted my family. She was timid and reminded me of a docile lion. She had this thing where she would want to come to you but would resist. Unfortunately, she died a few days later and it was sad but I'm comforted in the knowledge that she was loved in the short time she was with us. The funny thing is another dog has adopted us, she's a bit on the energetic side. Watching her would tire you out and yes she is loved.

I Went To
A great art exhibit put on by local artist/fashion designer, Argent Roberts. This exhibit had three evenings showcasing Argent's work and the work of other artists. Loved it, loved it, loved it. It made me miss NYC and the art scene and it inspired me to return to the arts but more on the administrative side than the creation of art. The exhibit hopefully has ignited a spark of something great being formed on the art scene of Antigua and Barbuda. Keeping my fingers crossed.

So what is in store in February 2014?
Well, it is my birthday on the 13th, Happy Birthday to me. I'm starting a new series from next Friday, showcasing Caribbean Bloggers. Plus I want to have a lot of fun.

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine showed me his pride and joy. It seems that my doing common day things and our unconventional banter brought his soldier to attention. He showed me the bulge in his jeans and asked if I wanted to see it. I believe he wanted to show and tell, and I soon came to realize that he would keep asking me if I didn't say okay.

I wouldn't say that I am a prude or I haven't seen men's prides, in fact, I've been quite acquainted with one for the better part of a year. But it got me to thinking about men and their desire to show and tell. Perhaps it's their version of being a peacock. "Here, pretty thing, is what you'll be getting." he says with a wink. Strangely enough, a few hours later I was listening to a Savage Love podcast and got confirmation that men do like to show their menhood (is that even a word).

This reminded me of something I did in relation to a short lived T-shirt company of mine called Sexualiteez. I can't remember why but I I think it was for the short lived blog associated with it, I went on Craigslist and with a quickly acquired email address asked men to email pics of their shlongs. At the time, I thought it was a hoot and I would get nothing, but I was amazed at the avalanche of dic pics I got. Long ones, short ones, thick ones, thin ones, in all different colours, all willing to show their privates to a complete stranger. Amazing.

Well, my friend has a decent piece of equipment and a few minutes after putting it away he asked to see my hello kitty. I drew the line there for various reasons, none of which I could vocalize properly at the time. I just said I didn't want to, but after much thought I realized that it was not because I didn't want to, it was because

    •    I didn't want the situation to escalate to somewhere I didn't want to go with a friend;
    •    I am happy with the johnson I'm acquainted with and don't want to mess that up;
    •    Unlike men, a woman can't pull out her kitkat with ease and tuck it away, the unveiling needs proper production - lighting, staging, props may be needed

Thankfully the conversation veered away from my exposing myself to an informative discussion on sexuality. That is another blog post in itself. After he went back to work, I could not help but think about what just happened. I couldn't help but wonder what would have happened in another setting, another set of conditions. I couldn't help but think, "Well, that just shows you never know what the day will bring." I can't now help but wonder how many men will show me their yoohoos in real life in the space of a month. And in that same month, how many pics I can collect.  I don't really have anything planned for the month of March. Hmmm... maybe compile it and make it an eBook/pdf file thingy. More on that later.

Last Word:
Honestly, I don't know what to say, LOL. Here are some random thoughts:

    •    Is it me but is it a coincidence that some joysticks look like men's you know whats? (sorry, I went blank on snarky words)
    •    Since men like to show their how do you do's, do women what to see them?
    •    What is the preferred word for one's privates? I'm drawn to cat references;
    •    I wonder how many people I've made uncomfortable with my doing a blog post on sex?
    •    To make you less uncomfortable by making you more uncomfortable about something else, just imagine there are old people in nursing homes getting more action than you. I think I made myself depressed.
    •    And the last, last word - NSFL means Not Safe For Life, it may change the way you view life and the people who populate it.

A few years back, I rocked one loc. My hair was cut low and I let one patch grow. When it was long enough, I would twist it until a loc was formed and it was a good 3" or more. Then my barber accidentally cut it off. That was a turning point in my life, not because I lost a loc of hair, because I didn't lose my cool. In the past, I would have ranted and raved, I would have been royally pissed off, but I wasn't.

By not getting taken over by raw emotions, I was able to see that I didn't have to punish the person who did wrong by me. He already felt bad as it is. Plus I knew I could grow that loc again, but I chose not to. In fact, my hair I have grown out my hair twice since then. I've rocked Afros and twist outs and now I'm going to rock loc's.


Why? Because I can. I've had relaxed hair for over a decade. I've had short hair for a decade. I've had Afros for a year or so and now I want to try something new. The truth is, I love my hair, it's thick, it's dynamic (around the edges are tight coils and at the top it's loose curls), it grows quickly, but to maintain it is another story. It takes hours to twist and it kills me to do a twist out because it will only last me a few days before it takes the form of a TWA (Teeny Weeny Afro). I've come to accept that my hair will not look like the chicas in the pics and the like, so I'm going with the locs.

I want at least once in my life to have waist length hair. The better to go "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" a la Jan of the Brady Bunch. Plus I know I can always shave it all off and start anew.

So I'm aiming for medium thick locs. The thin ones will have me spending a day at the salon and I love me Whoopie Goldberg, but I can't handle the chunky locs. Below are some styles I'm going to try when my hair grows long enough.



Last Word:
You only have one life, why not experiment with the way you look. As long as it's cool with your place of employment, rock that Afro, the tattoo or *sigh* piercing (letting you know now, I'm not a fan of the piercings, especially the "you really pierced yourself there type. Yes, I'm judging). As Madonna sang, Express yourself, don't repress yourself.

As we all know, there was a time when people thought the world was flat. The belief was if you sailed too far you would drop off the edge of the world. Thankfully, that was proved wrong, if not I wouldn't be born and I wouldn't be Eccentric in the Caribbean. But this got me to thinkin'

What are the beliefs we hold in the 21st century that can and may be disproved in a year, a decade, a century from now? Was it not 20 years ago that we had 9 planets? (you're still a planet to me, Pluto) Was it not 30 years ago that the internet was not even imaginable, much less FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram? Was it not 50 years ago that black people were considered second class citizens and interracial marriage was illegal? Was it not a century or more ago that space travel, air travel were inconceivable?

Just imagine that a lot of the things we have right now were created within the last century. And it doesn't end there, it can never end there. There is always someone out there working on taking humanity to the next level. Someone out there who will become the next Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, Richard Branson. I have one question,

Why can't that someone be you? Let's see, if you are someone like me you have a few excuses queued up to deliver:

• I'm not special
• I don't know what to do
• I don't have a degree in that field
• I don't have the money
• I'm too young
• I'm too old
• I have too many responsibilities
• I don't have the time
• I need to focus on my family
• People like me don't do that
• People won't take me seriously

and the list continues

The funny thing is we see these excuses as full stops, not as commas. Instead of saying these excuses, we should be questioning them.

• I'm not special
• Am I know special?
• Who said I'm not special?
• Are their point of views important to me?
• How can I prove to myself that I am special?

I once heard if you ask empowering questions, you will get empowering answers.

Think about it this way, what if Columbus didn't try to get to the East Indies via a western route because he had excuses. What if Thomas Edison did not create the light bulb? What if the person who created the first computer did not create the prototype? Would we be taking advantage of the other things that were built on the inventions, ideas of those who refused to fall prey to their excuses?

Last word:
I know there is something deep down inside of you that wants to be created, to be let out, why keep it in? Why deny humanity of your great idea? If not you, who? You are special, prove it to yourself, then prove it to the world.

Welcome to 2014! To be truthful, I'm actually in bed still, sleeping in. I wrote this blog post in advance, but don't worry what I'm writing is still relevant. Anyway it's 2014, a new year filled with new opportunities. What do you have planned for the new year?

For me, it's a bit different from the years before. Normally, I would acknowledge the new year then return to the status quo. The sad thing about that is January 31st would arrive and I would wonder where the month went. That changed up a bit when I created Bus Stop Antigua (BSA) last year. I started 2013, waist high in developing a website and in the end I felt like accomplished something. In fact, the whole year brought lots of positive things in my direction.

So what about this year? Well, this time around I'm juggling a few projects, as well as a few responsibilities. I'm also moving in with my little sister. This is also the year I take responsibility for my finances, as well as starting a new business. This year will also be the year of returning to blogging.

Last year, my blogging came to a trickle and then nada. How come? For one, I was not writing on my blog, I was posting other people's content and it just didn't feel right. I mean if one's heart is not in it, why bother? This year, I'm sticking to a weekly schedule of one post every Wednesday, if I feel inspired to share more I will, as long as I do that Wednesday blog post.

What to expect? For the most part my thoughts on life in general. There are topics that I want to get out of my head and share and this blog is the ideal place. I know I will face a couple challenges in terms of my questioning if I should post on certain topics, should I link the posts to my social media for all to see. The thing is I want to be honest, I want to be forthright and if some of the things I write are offensive to some people, so be it. I can't and I won't please everyone, every time.

Last Word
2014 is just another year, but it is up to you to make it an extraordinary year. Sure you can continue doing what you are doing, but here are some questions worth answering:

• Are you happy with where you are right now?
• Why not?
• How can you change it?

If you are like me, you probably let life give you any and every old thing, but what if you can decide what you want from life and you go out and get it? Don't you think you will get what you want or something close to it?

Just some food for thought.
